Native Plant Workshop
Description
Capital region residents are invited to attend an introductory workshop about gardening with drought-resistant native plants!
You will learn about:
- native plant identification
- an overview of the cultural history & ecological benefits of native plants
- a tour of the Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary native plant gardens, and
- an introduction to the CRD’s water conservation program
When: 3:00pm-6:00 pm
Where: Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary, 3873 Swan Lake Road, classroom to the right inside the Nature House front doors.
Cost: Pre-registration is required and costs $5. This covers the cost of a packet of locally grown native seeds.
In-person workshops have a maximum enrollment of 30 participants.

Parking:
Free Parking is available on site. Please view the Parking page on our website [URL embedded].
Bike parking and nearby bus routes are also available – 17, 26, 51, 70, 71, 72, and 75.

We aim to make the Nature House accessible to all individuals. If you have specific accessibility accommodations or questions, please contact us [URL embedded].
Entrance and Facilities:
The Nature House entrance is equipped with an automatic door opener and is approximately 85 meters from the main parking lot on a gravel path.
Inside the Nature House, there are two All Gender Universal Design washrooms and a water fountain with a water bottle filling station at the end of the hall.
We do not have braille or auditory interpretation for our exhibits at this time.
Accessible Parking:
There are two accessible parking spaces approximately 11 metres from the front door of the Nature House at the end of Swan Lake Rd.
Accessible Drop-off and Pick-up:
An accessible drop-off and pick-up location is positioned 10 metres the right of the Nature House entrance and has space for one vehicle at a time. There is no parking at the drop-off/pick-up location.
Service Dogs and Animals:
Certified service dogs (or service dogs in training) are permitted at the Nature Sanctuary, including the Nature House. Per Bylaw #7462, all other domestic animals are prohibited on site.
