Invert Week - Compost Cryptozoa
Description
This presentation is part of Invertebrate Week at Swan Lake!
Each day, guest speakers and educators will join us to deliver programs on fascinating invertebrate topics - learn more and see the full event schedule here [URL embedded]. Pre-registration is highly recommended as space is limited.
Learn all about the Cryptozoa: tiny but important creatures that hide in dark damp places, silently transforming waste into healthy soil! We'll get to hold some live earthworms and learn about their life cycles, examine microscopic critters like Springtails, and learn how to create the perfect compost conditions for a whole community of soil engineers!
About your facilitator: Jeffrey Ellom
Jeffrey is the Child & Youth Education Coordinator at the Compost Education Centre. One of his favourite hobbies is taking care of worm composting bins - of course he is super into worms, but there are often so many different invertebrates in a worm bin. A favourite of his are the tiny pseudoscorpions, who are harmless to people and get around by hitching rides on other invertebrates like beetles.
