Cultivating Community - A Celebration for Indigenous Peoples Day
Description
Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary will be hosting a special event in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day and we invite folks of all ages across the community to come along! Please join us in holding space to further our relationships with the Land and the stewards of this place.
This event will consist of a tour of the Native Plant Garden where visitors will have the opportunity to learn about various culturally and ecologically significant native species. Participants will have the option to participate in a guided or self-guided tour. Visitors will also be invited to create a collaborative kwetlal (camas) window display that signifies continuous relationship to Land, learning, and stewardship.
This event will be facilitated by Katherine Strom Trudel (she/they), a teaching intern completing their community field experience practicum at the Nature Sanctuary. Kat is in the final semester of their Elementary B.Ed program with UBC and is passionate about Indigenous sovereignty, food justice, and community care. They are working with Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary on furthering Indigenous accountability frameworks and education programs for the next two weeks.
