11am-12pm: Pond Dip for Aquatic Inverts w/ SLNS

03/21/2025 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM PT

Description

Get up close and personal with the invertebrates that live in the wetland at Swan Lake! We will use dip nets to collect the inverts, learn how to ID what we see, and discuss their important role in the ecosystem. Pre-registration is highly recommended as space is limited. This program is part of our Invertebrate Week presentation series; see the full presentation schedule and learn more about the event here.

Facilitator Bio:

Andie is a Community Educator at Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary. She loves to spend time observing the natural world and connecting with people through shared nature appreciation. Her favourite group of aquatic freshwater invertebrates are caddisflies. Caddisfly larvae construct a cozy tube-shaped casing out of silk, sand and plant material, where they live until they are ready to emerge from the water as flying adults.
